Historic San Remo Hotel prices competitively with local trend alerts

Revenue manager uses Rev+ to be aware of local events and rates.

THE OPPORTUNITY

In 2017, the Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA went under construction, causing a shift in the type of travelers to the city. With a drop in larger groups attending popular technology events, San Francisco hotels realized smaller groups and single travelers were the new target. Built after the earthquake of 1906, the historic and very unique San Remo Hotel near uber-popular Fisherman’s Wharf, also had to expand their efforts to price smarter and attract international travelers.

Citlali Chevaili, who leads marketing, revenue management and guest relations at the San Remo Hotel, was already working closely with Expedia® for years to garner more exposure for her property, and did so successfully. While working on pricing more competitively without a revenue management tool, Citlali had to spend her time and focus to manually gather information on each individual competitor in her neighborhood, taking time away from other important responsibilities.

THE SOLUTION

Given its historical status, the San Remo provides a unique experience for guests and has few truly comparable properties in the neighborhood, North Beach/Fisherman’s Wharf. Regardless, Citlali still needed to understand local demand in order to make smart revenue management decisions. With her standing relationship with Expedia, the Market Management Team introduced Citlali to Rev+, Expedia’s free revenue management tool on Expedia® PartnerCentral.

As a frequent user of Expedia PartnerCentral as well as the EPC App, Citlali logs onto Rev+ weekly and quickly gathers learnings on her customized competitive set and other local market trends that can affect demand and pricing for her property. With market data available from one source and in real-time as well as over the next few months, Citlali is better informed when creating her marketing plan for the hotel in times of high demand, as well as low, during a unique period in San Francisco tourism.
